Fireplace Accent Walls & TV Surrounds
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 211) mandates a minimum 6-inch non-combustible setback (stone, tile, or cement backerboard) between the fireplace firebox opening and combustible wood shiplap. For gas or electric fireplaces, consult manufacturer zero-clearance specs before installing.

Simulate Board Cuts on 16" Studs
Simple Rectangular Walls
Standard interior accent walls with 1 or zero openings only generate 5–8% real offcut waste. Adding a 10% factor ensures you have spare boards to cull knot defects.
Ceilings, Bathrooms & Siding
Ceilings and walls with multiple windows require frequent end cuts around trim and light fixtures. An extra 15% allowance prevents mid-project supply runs.
Diagonal & Herringbone
Diagonal 45-degree installations create triangular cutoffs at every wall edge. Triangular offcuts cannot be flipped over because the rabbet groove face is reversed.
16" Stud Span Rule
Offcuts shorter than 16 inches cannot span across two wall framing studs and must be discarded as scrap.
Retail Pack Rounding
Shiplap is sold in 6-board bundles. Always round up to full bundles to avoid lot-matching color variations.
Natural Lumber Culling
Real wood bundles contain 3–5% bowed planks or loose knot holes that should be culled before installation.

Explore cores de destaque e consulte o mapa de calafetagem para evitar fissuras nas juntas de dilatação.
Select Finish & Color
Best all-round designer finish. Provides clean shadow gap contrast with easy wipe-down durability.
Pre-Paint Tongue Lips
Always prime and paint rabbet grooves before nailing. Prevents unpainted wood strips from appearing during winter wood shrinkage.
Knot Bleed Sealer
Apply a shellac-based primer over pine knot clusters to prevent yellow resin tannin bleed-through on white paint.
Satin Sheen Advantage
Satin enamel balances soft architectural shadow lines with wipe-down washability for long-term durability.

Square 1×1 Backer Corner Block
Install a square 1×1 or 1×2 wood corner cleat vertically in the inside drywall corner first. Butt your horizontal shiplap boards directly against this cleat for clean square terminations.
Inside Corners
Butt joint with 1×1 corner cleat, or caulk a tight butt joint with paintable acrylic.
Outside Corners
Precision 45° miter cuts glued with CA glue, or cover with an L-shaped solid corner moulding.
Door & Window Casings
Install casings that are at least 1/8" thicker than shiplap (minimum 3/4" to 1" casing).
Electrical Outlets
NEC 314.20 requires non-conductive box extender rings to bring outlets flush with wood face.
Interior Accent Walls vs. Exterior Siding Rules
Exterior shiplap requires specialized weather-resistive barriers, drainage gaps, and corrosion-resistant fasteners.
Interior Installation Protocol
Living rooms, bedrooms, ceilings- ✓ Direct Drywall Install: Nail directly into wall framing studs with 16ga/18ga brads.
- ✓ Adhesive Boost: Apply construction adhesive in an S-bead pattern on every board.
- ✓ Acclimation: Store wood inside the room for 48 to 72 hours prior to nailing.
Exterior Siding Protocol
Exterior cladding, sheds, porches- ✓ House Wrap WRB: Must have a continuous Weather-Resistive Barrier before boards.
- ✓ Stainless Steel Nails: Always use 304/316 stainless ring-shank nails outdoors.
- ✓ Lapping Direction: Always install horizontal siding starting from the bottom upward.
Simulador de Proporções por Altura de Teto
A largura da tábua transforma a perceção visual do pé-direito. Teste diferentes proporções.
8-Foot Ceiling Proportions
In standard 8ft ceilings (96 inches), 1×6 shiplap (4.875" reveal) creates exactly 20 horizontal courses, producing the classic balanced farmhouse proportion without feeling overcrowded.
Small Spaces & Powder Rooms
Best for cozy powder rooms, laundry rooms, entryways, and historic Victorian restorations where smaller repeating lines add texture without overpowering small spaces.
Industry Standard Benchmark
The industry benchmark. Accounts for over 70% of residential accent walls because it balances visual weight perfectly in rooms between 8ft and 10ft ceiling heights.
Great Rooms & High Ceilings
Wider boards visually stretch walls horizontally, making large living rooms and high entries feel grounded and architecturally refined.

Filtre por letra ou pesquise definições técnicas de marcenaria e especificações de madeira.
Acclimation
The mandatory process of storing unfinished wood boards inside the installation room for 48 to 72 hours so internal moisture content balances with ambient humidity.
Blind-Nailing
Driving a finish nail at a 45-degree angle through the upper tongue or rabbet lip so the fastener head is completely concealed by the next overlapping board course.
Board & Batten
A traditional siding or wall cladding system consisting of wide vertical planks with narrow vertical wood battens covering the seams between planks.
Box Extender Ring
A non-conductive plastic or metal extension sleeve fitted inside existing electrical outlet/switch boxes to bring receptacle faces flush with wood wall coverings (NEC 314.20).
Caulking
Applying flexible acrylic latex sealant to inside corners, window casings, and baseboards to seal perimeter transitions before painting.
Course
A single continuous horizontal (or vertical) row of shiplap boards spanning across a wall or ceiling.
Exposed Face
The visible finished surface width of a shiplap board once it is installed and overlapping with adjacent boards. Nominal 1×6 has a 4.875" exposed face.
Furring Strips
Narrow wood battens (typically 1×3 or 2×2) fastened to masonry, basement concrete, or uneven drywall to create a level, plumb framing grid for shiplap nails.
Linear Feet (LF)
The total length of lumber boards laid end-to-end in feet, calculated by dividing required board area by exposed board width in feet.
MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)
An engineered wood product made of wood fibers glued under high pressure. Highly dimensionally stable with ultra-smooth paint surfaces, but vulnerable to liquid water.
Nickel Gap
A contemporary cladding profile featuring an intentional 1/8-inch (thickness of a US nickel) shadow reveal between boards with straight vertical shoulders.
Nominal vs. Actual
The difference between rough lumber naming (e.g. 1×6) and the actual planed dimensions after sawmill drying (0.688" × 5.375").
Rabbet Joint
An L-shaped step or recess cut along the edge of a wood board. Standard shiplap features two opposing rabbets that overlap.
Tongue & Groove (T&G)
An interlocking wood joint system where a protruding ridge (tongue) on one board fits tightly into a matching groove on the adjoining board.
Wainscoting
Wooden wall paneling covering the lower one-third to one-half of an interior wall, traditionally capped with a chair rail and baseboard.
